Student Worker Program

CRA offers our students the wonderful opportunity of a comprehensive education.  Our advanced students have the opportunity to work at the barn helping the instructors with lessons and learning the ins and outs of our every day operation.  All our working students are guaranteed a free practice ride in return for their hard work. If the student has its own horse then they would recieve a free lesson instead. These students are an integral part of our team and we are lucky to have them.

 Jennifer Wood

Hi! I'm Jennifer Wood.  I started riding when I was 10 years old.  In the beginning I rode Western and then in college I joined my school's equestrian team and began riding English. I competed in IHSA shows in both western horsemanship and hunter equitation on the flat. It was a lot of fun! I started riding at CRA to learn more about jumping and I just love it here! I hope to one day have my own horse farm, but for now I am happy to be here and help out and learn!

Laura Graham

Hello my name is Laura. I’m fourteen years old and I’ve been riding for about three years. I have always loved horses and being around them and I was so happy when I finally got to start working with Cumberland Riding Academy as a student worker. This place has opened up opportunities for my future, and I love every part of it. Even with no stirrups! My greatest desire is to have a horse of my own someday, but for now I’m content with loving on all the wonderful lesson horses that we have.

I started my riding career when I was 8 years old and have been riding on and off ever since.  Although I have concentrated on hunter jumper equitation, I have had the privilege of experiencing everything from vaulting, competition trail rides, assistant teaching at summer horse camp, benefit beach rides to raise money for the American Red Cross and just swimming with the horses on a hot summer day.  I even worked for a pony party company in middle school as my first real job.  Upon attending the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, I joined our equestrian team and held positions as both the Vice President and Secretary, while competing in IHSA. I moved to Tennessee after college and rode sporadically, but thanks to my wonderful husband, I was able to continue riding for good after he introduced me to Daniela and CRA.  I am so thrilled to continue my equestrian education and I am honored to be part of the CRA family.

Bethany Dorris

Hi! My name is Bethany Dorris. I have been riding on and off, since I was little. I loved riding as a child, but quit riding for a long time because of other activities. About 4 years ago, I decided to start riding again, and can’t imagine life without it now. There is no place I would rather be than riding or at the barn. I ride both English and Western, and it will forever be apart of my life.
