Our horses are the heart of our lesson program and we care for them dearly. We are proud to say we have the best lesson horses in the area, each horse is selected with care to ensure that it is a good fit for our program, we do not believe in quantity but quality and we grow our roster slowly with quality horses as they are needed, we ensure our horses are appropriate for our discipline because a program cannot be successful if the horses are not able to do their job. For this reason, all our horses are well trained, safe, and flashy for the show ring. As Nelson Pessoa said "...you can't transform a horse's talent, but you can make him a champion," and that is why we constantly strive to do the best we can and to make each and every one of our horses the best that it can be, and we do so with training, great care and lots of love.
Risk Taker AKA “Chance”
Brown Quarter Horse Gelding - 15.2 3/4 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Chance was purchased when we started the program in 2007, and it has been a long road ever since. He truly represents our core value, which is a commitment to our horses above all, to give each the care they need, and Chance has really put us to the test. Finally it has all come together, Chance is doing amazing. The correct nutrition has made Chance a very versatile horse, he now does lessons of all levels, and is a great lower level jumper, he is everyone's favorite horse!!! He attended his very first horse show in October 2011 and was Champion in the 2-Foot Open Hunter Division. I am just so proud of this boy!
Love Shack AKA “Shack”
Dark Bay Irish Thoroughbred - 16.2 1/4 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Bio coming soon!
Sundance Kid AKA “Cowboy”
Chocolate Palomino Welsh Pony Cross Gelding - 14.1 1/4 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Cowboy was purchased when we started the program in 2007. He is the cutest of the bunch but he is most certainly a pony, when he is great he is amazing but when he is having a pony day you just want to strangle him, good thing he is so adorable we can never stay mad at him! Cowboy does lessons of all levels, on the flat and over jumps. He has progressed so much and is just getting better and better, the older he gets the better he does his job especially with the more beginner riders. He is very versatile, great on the flat and he is an amazing jumper, this pony can truly jump the moon!
KCS Royal Te AKA "KC"
Bay Quarter Horse Gelding - 15 3/4 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
We purchased KC in May of 2008. KC does all levels of lessons from beginner to advanced, on the flat and over jumps. He was a show horse that sadly was outgrown by his child owner and was too good to be sitting around the farm doing nothing. He was mostly showed western but had also been shown Hunter Under Saddle. He had been off for six months when he joined our team, was completely out of shape and looked pregnant. The owner agreed to lease him to us for a couple of months to make sure he would be a good fit, and of course he was just what we needed. Amazingly enough he came around quickly and got right back into the swing of things and once he was fit we started jumping him, and who would have thought this western horse would be such an awesome jumper. All we can say is that KC always surprises us, we give him a new challenge and he passes it with flying colors!!
Hunter Downs AKA "Hunter"
Chestnut Appendix Gelding - 16.2 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Hunter joined our team in April 2010, and he settled in immediately. He came to us from a friend, he had been off for three years and prior to that all we know is that he was a track pony at some point. Like any horse that has been off for that long it has taken us a few months to get him in shape. Nothing much bothers him so he is very safe for all level riders, and he can trot poles and cross rails all day long or he can take you for an exciting ride around the jump course, he has the ability to do both hunters and jumpers!
Ima Miss Money Bell AKA "Belle"
Gray Quarter Horse Mare - 14.3 3/4 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Belle was purchased in March of 2008; she was the replacement for a horse that we were leasing that was going back home. We do not know much about her background, but we really liked that she was so safe for our beginner riders, not much bothers this girl! Needless to say she does lessons of all levels, on the flat and over jumps. She is very sweet, smart and not scared to learn, she is very easy to ride, and is very willing to go forward so the beginners really enjoy that she is not hard to keep going. When we bought her she needed a lot of work at the canter, was very unbalanced even at the trot so much she would constantly trip. She has learned so much and has become a great little jumper, jumps 2'6" easily and has great form over the jumps. She is just great and is continuing to progress every day!
Sweet Cinnamon AKA "Cinnamon"
Chestnut Pony Gelding - 14.1 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Cinnamon joined our roster in May 2010. We were looking for a quiet pony that would be mellow for the little ones and he is just great. I call him Cy and he is old and sweet and you can't help but just love on him. He is a large pony so he takes kids of all ages and levels, believe it or not he still can do small jump courses!
Mocha Mia AKA "Mia"
Bay Pony Mare - 14.1 1/4hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Mia is the sweetest 6 year old I know, she is so quiet you would think she is 20. She was purchased in May 2010 as a project horse, she is very fancy and will be headed to the the A circuit show ring. She is currently for sale but until then she is part of our lesson horse roster. Everyone loves her and most people are in shock when they find out she is only six. She has a great personality, amazing movement and good jumping ability and it does not hurt that she is gorgeous, you can see her a mile away!
Diamon Bar Impression AKA "Diamond"
Sorrel Solid Paint Gelding - 15.1 hands
Owner: Cumberland Riding Academy
Diamond is the latest addition to the CRA roster, purchased in the spring of 2011, he's a great horse. I knew I wanted to buy him as soon as I sat on his back, he is very sweet, willing to please, very comfortable to ride, and well trained, I knew the students would love him. Diamond does lessons of all levels, he is very patient and consistent!
